The attorney exercises the right of defense guaranteed by the Constitution at all stages of criminal proceedings, from police custody, through the preliminary investigation before the investigating judge, to litigation before the trial courts of first instance and appeal, as well as the criminal chambers of first instance and appeal. The attorney also represents civil parties for filing direct complaints and claiming compensation for damages in accordance with the rules of tort liability.
